By train
The town’s station is Viswanath Charali (VNE), on the Rangiya–Murkongselek line of Northeast Frontier Railway, a few kilometres north of the town centre.

By bus
Day and night buses, both ASTC and private, run between Guwahati and Biswanath Chariali. The journey takes around 4½–5 hours, depending on the bus and the traffic.
- Book online: search Guwahati → Biswanath Chariali on RedBus or AbhiBus. Both list private operators and ASTC-chartered AC buses.
- State buses: ASTC online booking and the ASTC website
- In Guwahati, buses usually leave from ISBT and Paltan Bazar. In Biswanath Chariali they stop at the ASTC stand and the town bus stop.
By air
Four airports serve the area, though Tezpur is currently closed. Flights change often, so check with the airlines.

Donyi Polo Airport is in Arunachal Pradesh. You can drive from it to Assam, but to visit Itanagar or elsewhere in Arunachal you need an Inner Line Permit.
