The Biswanath Wildlife Division was created in August 2018. It covers about 401 km², including the whole of Kaziranga’s 6th Addition and the Monabari soil conservation plantation.

It has three ranges, with headquarters at Gamiri (Eastern), Biswanath Ghat (Central) and Nagshankar (Western), plus a crime investigation range at Biswanath Chariali.

More than half the division is river, and around 80% of it floods in the monsoon. Elephants, wild buffalo, swamp deer and wild boar live here, and Gangetic dolphins are seen where rivers meet.

People sometimes call this area “North Kaziranga”, though that isn’t an official name.

Visiting the north bank

  • Bhomoraguri Ecotourism Zone: a boat safari on the Brahmaputra near Tezpur, where the Jia Bharali meets the Brahmaputra, about 75 km west of Chariali (not at Biswanath Ghat). Visitors can see Gangetic river dolphins and sometimes gharial. It is run by the Biswanath Wildlife Division and opens seasonally; it reopened in November 2025 for 2025–26, so check this season’s dates. There is also an ethnic restaurant and an eco shop.
  • Florican Eco-Tourism Gate, Naramari: a new regulated entry point to the 6th Addition, under the Nagshankar range. It opened in August 2026 and is planned to involve local guides and homestays.

Neither has an online booking page that we can find. Ask the Biswanath Wildlife Division about timings and bookings before you go.

Kaziranga’s well-known jeep safaris (Kohora, Bagori and others) are on the south bank, across the river, and can be booked on the official portal.
